On June 8, 2022, public and private sector representatives had a discussion on prospects for the development of the pharmaceutical industry in Armenia. The event was organized by representatives of IFC “Economic Growth of Armenia” program in cooperation with Association of Manufacturers of Pharmaceuticals of the Republic of Armenia. Vice Minister of Economy of the Republic of Armenia Narek Teryan, the management and teaching staff of the Institute of Pharmacy of YSU, representatives of YSMU, USAID-Armenia, UNIDO-Armenia participated in the discussion. The participants exchanged views on the growth opportunities in the Armenian pharmaceutical industry, the export potential of the sector, need and importance of training programs for pharmaceutical specialists. In order to increase the export potential of the pharmaceutical industry, “Economic Growth of Armenia” program team is going to study the pharmaceutical markets of the Middle East and North Africa (MENA), and develop the necessary tools and tips for local manufacturers to enter these markets. It should be mentioned that the pharmaceutical industry was approved as one of the 5 priority sectors for the industrial development of Armenia by the Government Decree 1902-L of November 18, 2021, which includes development and implementation of the Concept and Strategy for all five priority sectors of the industry. To this end, “Public-Private Dialogue” working group was organized at the initiative of the Association of Manufacturers of Pharmaceuticals, in cooperation with the Ministry of Economy, Ministry of Health, “Enterprise Armenia” investment promotion center, and IFC “Economic Growth of Armenia” program team. The working group is currently working on the Concept and Strategy for the development of the pharmaceutical industry in Armenia.
